Amnesty International
Amnesty International has committed itself to fight for a world in which the rights of every person are respected, based on the “general declaration of human rights”. Amnesty globally uncovers human rights violations and acts, when humans are acutely endangered. As early as 1977 Amnesty International received the Noble peace prize.
In particular Amnesty works:
- to uncover human rights violations and to prosecute the perpetrators
- against torture, death penalty, political murder and “letting people disappear”
- for the release of all nonviolent political prisoners, who are imprisoned based on their origin, colour, language, religion or conviction
- for the protection and the support of human rights activists
- against racism and discrimination and for the protection of the rights of refugees
- for the protection of human rights in armed conflicts, for effective control of arms trade
- for the special protection of the rights of women and girls
- for the promotion of commercial, social and cultural rights
