Freunde alter Menschen
An increasingly ageing society has to re-think and change its relationship with „old people“. The organisation „Freunde Alter Menschen“ has already been doing this for decades, not only in Germany but all over the world. Freunde Alter Menschen e.V. has been involved in many various projects in Germany since 1992: In order for us to continue to be able to develop in an innovative and independent way in times of financial strain, we depend on donations more than ever and are grateful for all of your financial support!
Home visitation programme: This programme is primarily about members of our organisation accompanying people living alone into old age. Most of these people can no longer leave their home without help from strangers. This is where the home visitation programme plays a key role: a volunteer meets with an old person with the aim of developing a genuine friendship.
Group activities: Group meetings are also organised, such as coffee mornings, games afternoons or excursions. Family holidays such as Easter and Christmas Eve are especially popular with older people.
Shared housing for people with dementia: We organise sheltered accommodation for people with dementia and also advise on initiatives that wish to copy this model in other German cities, such as Bremen, Hamburg, Mainz, Munich, Freiburg, Frankfurt and Dortmund.
Strengthening neighbourly ties: We developed a model housing project in 2006, together with two Berlin-based housing cooperatives, which strengthens neighbourly ties, thus enabling older people to remain in their own homes all their lives.
Our work is slowly gaining sociopolitical recognition, and we have already won many awards.
